Wells Fargo launches their StockOptions site for 35 external companies.
Wells Fargo manages the stock option plans for 35 external companies plus two internal plans, for a total of approximately 500,000 active optionees. The plans are managed on the industry leading Transcentive EOWin platform, which consists of a win32 administrative client talking to SQL Server databases. Transcentive also has a web product that enables the optionees to obtain self service information about their options.
Unfortunately, this product had limited functionality and could only handle 3 concurrent users. The project at Wells Fargo began with analysis of how to improve performance to handle at least 200 concurrent users.
After spending a week with the Transcentive development team in Connecticut, it became clear that performance was not going to improve to the level needed by Wells Fargo, and the decision was made to architect and build the self service web site internally.
The result was a high performance web site that has both optionee and administrative functionality. On the administrative side, annual reports that take 30 hours to process in the win32 administrative client now take under 3 minutes on the web site. The web site has peaked at just over 2000 concurrent users with no performance problems.
Because Wells Fargo was able to return the Transcentive web software, they were able to realize a $400k savings with the web site TitaniumSea developed. See stockoptions.wellsfargo.com.
